Jean Thomas

Kindergarten Teacher

What year did you start teaching at Siouxland Christian?

1986

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

You are made by an amazing God who loves you more than you can understand.

Is there a Bible verse or quote/saying that you live your life by?

Psalm 84 11 says, "For the Lord is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from them who walk uprightly."

Why did you want to become a teacher? Why do you teach at Siouxland Christian?

I remember volunteering in my little sister's preschool when I was in upper elementary school. I loved watching them learn and I loved the creative nature of being a teacher. After I became a Christian as a teenager, I felt a very real calling to become a teacher. I had high school teachers who guided me in choosing a Christian college to help me meet my goals. My husband accepted a job in Sioux City after I had taught for 3 years. I sought a job at the former Morningside Christian School, now Siouxland Christian, back in 1986. I have been privileged to teach at this school ever since.

What is your favorite lesson to teach in your class?

Science is my favorite subject. I love to find experiments that I can share with the children. They love the hands-on learning and so do I!

What inspires you?

Working with little people inspires me. I love watching the "light bulb" come on, seeing them when understanding of reading comes alive for them, and encouraging them to love books and reading.
